C.S. Lewis – Prophet?

   Posted by: Bill

I’m certainly not in the habit of providing Christian quotes on my blog, but the renowned Christian author might well be called a prophet. Read his quote in light of the passage of the recent controversial healthcare bill:

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be ‘cured’ against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals. But to be punished, however severely, because we have deserved it, because we ‘ought to have known better,’ is to be treated as a human person made in God’s image.”

Wow. Just wow.

Did They See It Coming?

   Posted by: Bill

Day by day we hear more about the financial crisis. I have neighbors on both sides of my yard that are out of work. I myself have been forced to take a paycut, although I’m grateful that I’m still working. The mortgage lending crisis has spilled over into so many sectors because we are a credit-based economy – there is no “gold standard” any more.

But did they see it coming? Apparently they did, as our neighbors to the north point out. Have a look at this video, preserved by a group in Canada. This video was once available via YouTube here in the U.S., but was apparently removed by those who didn’t want it to be shown.

Is this the change we were looking for? And the most important question of all – where is the money coming from to bail out all of these companies?

What I Don’t Believe

   Posted by: Bill

There are many things that I don’t believe in (including ending sentences with prepositions). Some of these things are controversial, but it simply is a fact that I stand where I stand. Among the things in which I don’t believe are the following:

  1. I do not believe in change for change’s sake. It is a wreckless and foolhardy thing to make a change simply out of a desire for something different.
  2. I do not believe that what the majority holds as true makes a thing right. History is filled with stories of destruction precipitated by the majority. Remember, one meaning of the Greek word “Democracy” (demokratia) is “Mob Rule”.
  3. I do not believe in slogans without substance. People love to rally around a mantra, but a mantra without meaning is simply repetitive noise.
  4. I do not believe that personality and charisma make a person a good leader. Adolph Hitler had personality and charisma in spades.
  5. I do not believe in resolving cognitive dissonance by ignoring facts. This is the very definition of self-delusion.
  6. I do not believe that one can distance themselves from the behaviors of those with whom they associate, especially when many of those associates exhibit similar and consistent behaviors. I remember only too well my mother’s admonition that we’re all judged by the people with whom we associate.

But what exactly are those things in which I do believe? Here are some: Read the rest of this entry »

More Anti-Israel Ties To Obama

   Posted by: Bill

Yet another anti-Israel anti-Zionist association from Barack Obama’s past. Would any fellow Jew PLEASE explain to me why I should still vote for this guy? I’m serious – PLEASE tell me why Jews should vote for Obama!

Note: the original video I had embedded has been removed by YouTube. I’ve tracked down a more complete version of the video with Daniel Pipes appearing on Hannity’s America

Here is the original LA Times article showing Obama’s association with, and praise of, Khalidi, where the LA Times characterizes Palestinians as having a friend in Obama.

Here is the Fox News story showing that the LA Times is deliberately refusing to release the tape of Obama praising Khalidi. Note that Fox News has also removed this article as well. Hmmm… I’ve posted Google’s cache of the article below after the break, as well as much more material.

UPDATE: This also has been released by The Schnitt Show based on an article by Andrew McCarthy at National Review:

The Collective Memory

   Posted by: Bill

You know, one of the great things about the Internet is that it never seems to forget what happened in the past. I am inclined to send a personal “thank-you” note to Former Vice president Al Gore for his crowning invention. Such archival tools are great for helping us recognize the history behind what we’re experiencing today.

Attached is an article that I received from a friend. It was originally published by The New York Times on September 30th, 1999 titled “Fannie Mae Eases Credit To Aid Mortgage Lending“. I have provided the link to the archived article as well as a PDF printout of the report. I think it will go a long way toward explaining the economic pain that “Main Street” is feeling today and where this pain originates. A word of warning however: The New York Times is considered a very liberal newspaper and is frequently unfriendly to Conservative political standings. Nonetheless I think this article is very important reading.

The archived article is here.

The PDF printout is here.

Here are some of the more interesting quotes in the article:

“In a move that could help increase home ownership rates among minorities and low-income consumers, the Fannie Mae Corporation is easing the credit requirements on loans that it will purchase from banks and other lenders. “

“Fannie Mae, the nation’s biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people”

“But the government-subsidized corporation may run into trouble in an economic downturn, prompting a government rescue similar to that of the savings and loan industry in the 1980’s.”

So the $64,000 question is this – are you still blaming this crisis on the Bush Administration?

Time For Some Campaignin’!

Looks like the folks over at JibJab are at it again! Have a peek at this rather funny little video. I think you’ll get a smile out of it regardless where you sit on the political spectrum.

Are you kidding me?

   Posted by: Bill

Just saw this video on YouTube. This should absolutely scare the daylights out of anyone. According to the YouTube posting (here) this was performed by students at the Urban Community Leadership Academy in Kansas City, MO. Before beginning their “praises” of Barak Obama, they enter the room in militaristic fashion chanting “Alpha … Omega” over and over. I imagine that such a connotation would not be lost on Christian audiences…

Click the link below to download, just in case this goes “off the air”:

[UPDATE] No big surprise, but its suddenly off the air at YouTube. Use the link below to download the movie, and play it in RealPlayer.
[UPDATE2] Looks like someone else has posted it on YouTube now. Updated video link above.

I weep for this next election.
